This small standing image of Kannon, measuring only 17 cm in height, was commissioned by a private individual who wished to have a figure for memorial prayer to a family member. The request was for a modest image that could be both enshrined in the household Buddhist altar and carried along when traveling. In creating the work, I sought to imbue the small form with a quiet presence that might evoke a lingering memory of the deceased.
Drawings were prepared, and through repeated consultation and exchange of ideas, the envisioned appearance of the Kannon gradually took shape. It is my hope that this image will remain at the patron’s side, offering a gentle smile and quiet companionship for years to come.
