The statue was covered with dust and some parts were missing when I received this order. The surface was peeling, the hands and the back of the head were missing. As I started the restoration process, it turned out that the statue has many traces of mending – in records from various eras by various people.

This process was focused on cleaning and reinforcement, and we decided not to put golden foils on the surface and respect how it looks today.

The hands and the back of the head (which seemed to be replaced in later years) were replaced with the new ones, which were made to fit the original statue more naturally with their surfaces going through an aging process.

The owner of the temple thought that the statue is a Yakushi statue, considering the history of the temple, so we decided to restore it with his hand holding a medicine jar.

I hope the statue, which has been worshiped and inherited by many people through the ages, welcomes prayers with the restored appearance until the day it goes through another restoration by a future artist.
