This Fudo Myoo (Acala) statue has been carefully preserved and passed down through generations by a private owner. The overall condition of the statue was excellent, clearly reflecting the deep devotion with which it has been enshrined over the years.

However, certain elements had been lost over time, including the Kurikara-ken (the mythical sword) originally held in the left hand, as well as parts of the flaming halo (kaen-kohai) and the rock-shaped pedestal (iwa-za). Additionally, the tenons (hozo) connecting the figure and halo to the pedestal had loosened, causing structural instability.

The primary goal of this restoration was to recreate these missing components and apply a traditional koshoku (antique-toning) finish to match the current coloration. This allowed us to restore the statue to its original majesty while preserving its beautifully aged patina. The tenons were also meticulously adjusted to ensure structural stability and durability.

Furthermore, removing decades of accumulated dust and grime from the surface successfully revived the original brilliance of the coloration. To ensure its preservation for future centuries, a consolidating treatment using animal glue (nikawa) was applied to prevent the pigment layers from flaking.

Though modest in scale, this small statue exudes a powerful and vibrant energy. It has been a profound honor to assist in restoring its structural integrity, and it is our sincere hope that this work helps the statue continue its sacred journey through time.
